This is a preview of the image checklist inside the Pro tool. Here it is a static reference. The interactive version, where you tap each item off and it saves on your device, is in the Amazon FBA Listing Optimizer.
- Main image on a pure white background (255,255,255)
- โAt least 1000 x 1000 px so zoom works
- โProduct fills about 85% of the frame
- 6 or more images (aim for 7 to 9, plus a video)
- โNo text, logos, or watermarks on the MAIN image
- Include lifestyle, infographic, and size / scale shots
- Show the product in use and key features up close
๐ก Quick answer: Your main image must be on a pure white background (RGB 255,255,255), show only the product with no text, logos, or props, and fill about 85% of the frame. Images should be at least 1000 x 1000 pixels so zoom works. Use all available slots, aim for 6 or more images plus a video, and include lifestyle, infographic, and scale shots. A main image that breaks the rules can block your listing from going live.
Why images decide the click
In search results a shopper sees your main image before they read a word of your title. It is the single biggest factor in whether they click you or the listing next to you. A dull, cluttered, or non-compliant image loses the click no matter how good your copy is. And because the main image has hard rules, getting it wrong can stop your listing from going live at all, which is a problem no amount of keyword work will fix.
The main image rules
The main image is the strict one. It must sit on a pure white background (RGB 255, 255, 255), which is what lets it blend into Amazon's search results. It must show only the product you are selling, no props, no packaging unless the packaging is the product, and no text, logos, watermarks, or badges laid over it. The product should fill roughly 85% of the frame so it reads clearly at thumbnail size. Break these and Amazon can suppress the image or the whole listing.
Image size and quality
Upload images at least 1000 pixels on the longest side, and 1000 x 1000 or larger is the practical target, because that is what turns on Amazon's zoom feature. Zoom lets shoppers inspect your product closely, which builds confidence and lifts conversions. Blurry or low-resolution images do the opposite. Higher resolution is fine and often better, so shoot large and let Amazon scale down.
How many images and what kinds
You get multiple image slots, and you should use them. Aim for six or more, and seven to nine plus a short video is stronger. Beyond the white-background main image, mix in the shots that actually sell: lifestyle images showing the product in use, infographics calling out key features and benefits, a size or scale shot so buyers understand the dimensions, and close-ups of the details that matter. Each image answers a question a shopper would otherwise hesitate on.
Use the checklist before you publish
Images are easy to get almost right and still miss a rule, a stray logo on the main image, a set that stops at three photos, a file too small for zoom. Running down a checklist before you publish catches these fast. The preview above shows the checklist from the Pro tool; the difference there is you can tap each item off as you confirm it and it saves, so you always know what is left.
This guide lists the rules. The Pro tool tracks them.
Amazon cannot verify your actual photos from a browser, and neither can this page, which is why the checklist is a manual reference rather than an automatic scan. What the Amazon FBA Listing Optimizer adds is an interactive version of this checklist that you tap through and that saves your progress on your device, so as you build a listing you can track exactly which image requirements you have met and which are still open. The preview here is static; the tool keeps score.
