💡 Quick answer: A one-page resume typically contains 400-600 words. A two-page resume for experienced professionals runs 700-900 words. More than 900 words on a resume signals poor editing.

How to reduce your resume word count

Start by removing job duties and keeping only achievements. Replace weak verbs with strong ones. Remove adjectives that don't add information. Cut anything from more than 10 years ago unless directly relevant.

Should a resume be one page or two pages?
One page for under 5 years of experience. Two pages for 5+ years with substantial relevant experience. Never three pages unless you're submitting an academic CV.
Does resume word count include the header?
Word count tools count all visible text including your name, contact information, and section headers. For practical purposes, the word count of your resume content excluding the header is what matters most.
